What Does the Bible Say About Lust?

In Scripture, lust is not merely sexual desire itself, but an intense inward longing or craving that can lead away from God’s purposes. The Bible does not shy away from acknowledging lust as a pervasive force in human life—especially because sin originates in the heart (Mark 7:21–23). From Adam and Eve disdaining God’s boundary in the Garden of Eden to David’s passionate temptation in Psalm 51, lust’s grip on the human heart is examined with both compassion and clarity.
